Nobody likes to bind. No matter what you do, it’s uncomfortable, restricts your breathing, and there’s nothing sweatier in the summer. Unfortunately, breasts are a major roadblock in controlling a read. Read on for a few suggestions on how to control their appearance.

If you are small-breasted (A-B cup sizes), you can wrap an Ace Bandage tightly around your chest, pressing each breast toward the armpits. Be sure to wrap it high enough so that the weight of the breasts doesn’t pull it down. One drawback to this method is that Ace Bandages tend to roll up and migrate, which can show through your clothes. Anchoring them down with a layer of medical tape can help somewhat with this, but you’ll definitely sweat more.

Some people recommend turning spandex shorts, or control top panty hose into a tube top for binding, but this is really a waste of time.

Smaller-breasted people can get good results from tight sports bras. You can find these at athletic/running stores. Title 9 Sports carries the Frog Bra, which is popular. Some have also mentioned Champion’s sports bra. If the size you’re accustomed to doesn’t quite do the trick, try one or two sizes down.

For larger chests, there are a number of manufactured binders that you can try. Most of them are targeted toward men for use as a type of girdle for slimmer waists, or for gynecomastia (male breast development). Below are a few binding items that perform well for the FTM community.

Men’s Abdo Trim - The Sears Home Health Care Catalog

An abdominal support undershirt, for about $17.00.

     Call (800) 326-1750 to request a catalog.

Transitions Binder - Transitions

The Transitions chest binder is marketed for FTMs and is made to look like a tank top. The lining binds while the outer layer smoothens things. Made to order and only comes in white. Exact sizing is needed for the binder to be made. Contact Transitions for a copy of their sizing chart. One bonus is that they offer free alterations. $85.00 + $8.00 for shipping in the U.S.

     Transitions; P.O. Box 3547; Conroe, TX 77305.

Surgical Compression Vest - Morris Designs

Another option for binding. Costs $33.00.

Morris Designs; 1637 Godfrey Lane; Virginia Beach, VA 23454; (804) 481-9313.

Be sure to check out Underworks and NeoForma, as well.
